About Us

The chess club was reformed in 2004, after number of attempts to establish a chess club in the Parramatta RSL had meet with modest success at best. A small group of chess enthusiasts spearheaded by Bob Sewell (President) decided to make a concerted effort to resurrect and build the club into a friendly and enjoyable place to play chess.

We are a non-profit organization, with aims of developing unity and friendship within the community and foster a social atmosphere for players of all ages and abilities. We also try to promote and expand the game of chess, and having fun doing it!

The Parramatta RSL Chess Club meets every Thursday night in Parramatta RSL, Macquarie Street, Parramatta. The Club has ample parking across the street in its own parking station; or it is about a 5-minute walk from Parramatta Rail Station if you catch the train.

Besides internal competitions and social chess, this year the club hosted the July Weekender (class 2) Grand Prix Tournament. We fielded teams in both the Western Suburbs Chess Premiership and Sydney Metropolitan Interclub Grade Matches competitions as well having 3 teams in both of the NSWCA’s 1-day Teams Challenges.

We also play in an annual Western Suburbs Rapid Chess Challenge against Rooty Hill RSL Chess Club on a home and away basis in late November.
